Simplified, my prescription is +2.00 (+1.50 for bifocal). I really only need gauge readers because even though my main perscription is +2.00, my distance vision underwater seems to be okay. (although admittedly, I am lake diving and the vis is considered good if it's better than 5 or 6 feet.)
You might want to consider either a hydro-optix stick-on for the bottom corner on one side of your mask. It's a lot easier, cheaper and you can move it around until you like it's position. Terry

Ah ha, the age old monocle trick.....---trust me, this way of correcting vision works........

Steve: You might want to consider Aqua Dive Optx flexible mask magnifiers.....you can find them shown as an accessory on the masks described in Leisure Pro site. The way I found them was looking at the Atomic Frameless mask on Leisure pro site and then clicking on accessories....they come in 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, etc,ect +.........I haven't used them yet so I can't give you a report but I have just ordered them and look forward to trying them out to see how they work.....it's definitely an alternative to the $150-200 for prescription lenses.
I HAVE used them. I've purchased and lost a couple of sets. I don't want to throw good money after bad so I'm opting for the prescription mask route. I've already spent the money on two sets. I install them per the instructions and before I get into the water they seem like they are really stuck on. But after a couple of mask clearings, one is usually gone and the other one doesn't last long after that. I would be willing to buy another set if I could glue them onto the outside of my mask. Hadn't thought of that. Hmmm. Would a clear silicone glue work? I'm going to end up buying a new mask anyway so I could try it on my current mask and see if it works.

All of your replies have been great, as I know that they would be.

We have served many happy customers over the years with this product:

SeaVision 2000 Custom Prescription Mask: Scuba Gear and Diving Equipment

Feel free to call me with any questions.

I purchased a ScubaPro mask through my LDS almost 5 years ago. The sent it out to SeaVision to customize my lenses. SeaVision nailed my RX! Although I am at the very opposite of the spectrum than you are (high minus with a high astigmatism correction), I have been extremely happy with the lenses. If they can get my RX right, they can probably do anything. Custom RX lenses may cost more, but well worth it in the long run!

Good luck!
Sandy

I'd like to pick the vast knowlege base of ScubaBoard to find out what is the best mask to use for prescription lenses. I wear bifocals and need a little help these days reading my gauges. I have used and lost two sets of those silly a$$ed Diveoptix and am tired of throwing good money away on those things. I guess I'm to vain to clip a magnifying glass to my BC.

Can they make prescription lenses for any mask or are there specific ones that work better. I know Ocianic makes lenses for "minus" prescriptions (near sighted) but I contacted them and they don't do anythig for the "plus" perscriptions.

I've seen a couple of websites that tout prescription lenses for masks but I was wondering if anybody has some sage words of advice for me.

Try XS Scuba. My wife has had the gauge reader mask in black silicone for at least a year and it works great. It was less than $70 and has 1.5 + on the bottom quarter of the mask. It works great for her. She can see the controls on her camera with no problem.

Okay, just for grins I attached a set of +3.00 "stick-on-lenses" (These are a little smaller than the diveoptix ones and less than $15.00 for a set) to the outside of my mask with some clear silicone calking. For the first time since I started diving, I can actually READ my gauges. I'm going diving this weekend and I'll report back with how it did. I am still going to get a new mask set up with my perscription but now I'll have a (hopefully) usable back-up.

Steve.
