Thanks all! This question was really for my fiance and he refuses to try contact lenses, so it seems like a prescription mask is the only way to go. He'll be reading all of your wonderful information shortly :)

Thanks again!

It's all about fit, right? I got some very happy customer recommendations for SeaVision, but unless you know someone with one, good luck finding one to try on for size.

I ended up buying an Atomic mask through my LDS. Atomic does Rx lenses at the factory, so I picked out an Atomic mask in the shop and had the Rx version a week later.

If I already had a mask I loved, I might have used one of the services that puts Rx lenses into your own mask. But I needed a new mask too, so I just went with Atomic.

Note that you can use a Flexible Spending Account on Rx eyewear for sports, so if you have an FSA... use it on your mask. :)

I have a HydroOptix RX mask. I've seen posts on this site from the guy who runs HydroOptix, so maybe he'll chime in...

I do not remember exactly what I paid, but it was less than $150. It might not be the most fashionable solution, but my mask has Rx lenses bonded to the inside of the regular mask. Works fine, and was pretty close in cost to a pair of glasses.

I paid $69 plus shipping for mine. Google "prescripton dive mask" and a bunch of them come up. You can pay a lot more for one if you are the type.

Who did yours for $69?

I would strongly suggest you employ your wiley female ways to get him to go contact lenses. I wore them for my first dive ever and haven't looked back.

Really, get him to try contacts, at least just once. It's a revelation when diving and imo, fwit, a much better solution that a script mask. Others may differ in opinion but he should at least try out this option before ruling it out - really it's been a revelation to me.

Tridacna: Can't remember. It was two years ago. I need a new mask so I'll try to find the reciept and post it.

Tridacna: Found reciept. It's Snorkel Mart. Spirit model with exhaust valve. Actually it is cheaper this time.

Of course there's always the risk of the mask not fitting when you're buying online as there is no way to try it before you buy.

Yeah, but these days the very soft silicone skirts are extremely forgiving, unlike the neoprene in the Old Days. Particularly if you have an "average" face -- and you'd know if you didn't.

*edit* Unfortunately the corrective lenses for that particular mask through 101 Snorkel "only" go up to -7.0. Still a long ways to go to get to my prescription!! :(
