I'm a Fish!
Ugh...I had to buy a new laptop recently thanks to a complete hard drive crash and the new one has Vista.

I've tried to install Premiere Pro from the creative suite CS3 and it worked just fine initially. I was able to capture video, create titles, import music and create a project. But when I tried to do the export thing it wouldn't.

Now I can't even get Premiere Pro.exe to launch. I get an error and it says that "windows will look for a solution" - it may or may not do this, who knows, but it doesn't ever find one.

So, what's the gos on this? Is there something I'm missing?

I was going to just stick with Vista and not muck about with going back to XP, but this will be a deal breaker for me...what a pain!

Rightclick the icon and choose properties then go to the Compatability tab and you can set it there. Just remember to click "Apply" before you click ok.
If you right click the icon you can also select "run as administrator" which is neccesary to do with some applications thats not been updated for vista.

the premiere pro icon thats probably on your desktop

my daughter says you should make sure you did a full install, not the quick version. All features may not have loaded. Also she says that if you didn't register it yet, all features won't work. She also says DO NOT go back to XP, stay with Vista. She has a Dell laptop with Vista and although she has had some minor issues, she does love it now and thinks it is worth a little hassle.

This all comes from my 20yr old daughter, a college student who lives on her computer. I am also a computer gumby. :D

I avoided Vista and stuck with XP because of issues like this. I get mixed feedback even from IT types. Some say there are numerous compatibility issues, many of which cannot be resolved by changing compatibility modes; others that there are few if any problems. I stayed conservative and bought a new video editing computer with XP installed, but it also came with Vista if I wanted to "upgrade." Yeah, right.

I've been using computers since 1967 and began programming in 1983, but now all I want to do is run applications to do my work rather than spend countless hours in the OS trying to tweak it to work.

OK, here's the solution...and once you read ALL of the directions, it wasn't painful. Though, frankly, I shouldn't have had to do this, it should have just worked.

And so far I still hate Vista as it isn't nearly as intuitive or user friendly...I still can't figure out how to do a search of my hard drives!!

Uninstall CS3 and all components
Go to Adobe - Adobe CS3Clean Script
Download and READ the instructions (there may be another bit you need to download and run before you run CS3Clean)
Run CS3Clean as per instructions
Install CS3
Poof, seems to work...at least for the one and only project that I've done so far.

Cross fingers here.

Um.. doing a search is done in two steps...
1. Click the start icon
2. Type the search parameter in the text field

Thats how easilly you search for a file..
If you need a more advanced search click "search everywhere" (After having done the basic search) and youll get a new window with more options...
