Tank Exchange Program

Hi All, Northeast Scuba Supply, Inc has decided in the interest of diver
safety to put together an Aluminum Tank Exchange program. Please checkout
the link on our website at
http://www.northeastscubasupply.com/alexchangeprogram.html.

This is not sponsored by any cylinder manufacturer but is something we at
Northeast Scuba Supply feel should be done for safety. If you have any
questions please call our shop at 610-631-2288.

If possible please post this to any forum you can think of as we will offer
this to the whole country.

Thanks
John Allen

I'm all for safety and such, but "Bring in any aluminum tank that was manufactured prior to 1989 and we will exchange your tank for a brand new one for a nominal fee."
Your fee of $119.95 for a 80 cf is a bit stiff, I can buy a new tank for another $30-$40 more. And keep my old one to boot, sounds kinda gimmicky to me.
Have there been alot of pre-'89 tanks going bad recently?

Hi, this is John from Northeast Scuba Supply. We are just trying to get some of the older tanks off the market. The price we qouted is our price with no markup. We are just trying to provide a service for those divers stuck with old tanks. It is not a gimmick.

O.K. I'm still curious, Has there been a run of bad tanks recently? Not passing hydro or vis?

Translation: You get $10.04 off their normal tank price:

Calling a less than 10% price break a "nominal fee for exchange" is borderline dishonest. Sorry John, I've bought a lot of stuff from you and you've always been a straight shooter in the past, but this is over the top...

Tell you what, anyone wants to get rid of their pre-89 cylinders, I'll give you $15 for 'em. Then you can go to NESS, pay "full price" and you'll come out even more ahead!

Roak

Jim, alot of the shop are no longer filling them. Some of the older tanks have problems with sustained load cracking. Try a google search for aluminum scuba tank explosions also DOT has just gotten involved at the hydrostatic level in requiring tanks to be visual eddyied, stamp and records kept. The old aluminum tanks have a history of cracks, voids, etc. Luxfer cylinders even a couple of years ago offered an exchange program. The problem is they did this for a limited time.

To other sites that go over this are

Hope this helps. See ya John

So you are saying we are being dishonest because we are trying to get some of the old dangerous tanks off the market. This is something we believe in. No one else is offering it. This is not a sale gimmick it is about safety.

O.K. The reason I asked is that I myself have 2 tanks one is '83 the other '89 both in hydro and vis. The shop I take them to use the visual eddy also. I've heard that Luxfer offered a exchange program a while back but was thinking it was for a certain type of aluminium used in the manufacture.
