are you using xp? try this link http://www.xpcodecpack.com/ it's free and almost complete

mplayer works quite well as well...and there's a plugin for firefox.

Ok I feel like an idiot here, Firefox doesn't seem to want to play the movie and when I use Internet explorer, I get a message from Norton that it's just prevented an intrusion attempt on my pc..

download quicktime with itunes, it has the codec for HDV.
