Question for anyone who has undergone Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and returned to dive. Have you been questioned to provide clearance/documentation/test results when returning? I know the health paperwork at several places ask about changes to health status and we want to be honest.
Buddy had it done last year, luckily he told me about bilateral jaw pain upon exertion, I suggested a blockage which turned out to be the case X 3 > one resolved via stent and 2 w/ graft. Never had an MI. No damage to the muscle. He was in excellent health otherwise, weight within 10 lbs of HS, 29 inch waist (I should be in such shape). LAST person one would suspect to have coronary issues. Surgery was textbook, 3 day LOS, resumed walking immediately, 2 month post op he was cleared to resume all activities. Has been cleared to dive by a Dive doc, has letters from Cardiac Surgeon, Cardiologist, PCP to that effect. Stress test last month, 12.8 mets no problem (DAN literature recommends 13), all other tests clear.
I don't want to show up and be told he can't dive. I know every operator is different, and I will be reaching out to the op with whom we are diving, but wondering what experiences have been. It's warm water, shallow, recreational, pretty fish, pictures, shoot some GoPro, shoot some Lion Fish, shore and boat diving, and I am not concerned about his fitness to dive.
