TexasMike, my wife and I went out to PK this morning. Since it was just the three of us we took my boat. The engine was a little more cranky than normal but it ran.
We took advantage of the free launch at Scuba point. One lane ramp and really steep, but the truck did fine. I didn't run over anyone or turn anyone into fish food so that was good.
First dive: Hells gate. This lake is beautiful from the surface. By far one of the prettiest in Texas. Anchored in 75' of water in a no wake zone on the back side of the gate. Vis at surface was about 3'. It improved to 7-10 feet at the thermalcline at 40', but the temp dropped to 60*. Cold. We kinda cruised around for around 30 min or so. Stayed together good. Short surface swim back to the boat.
Second dive: Big Rock Bouy. Close to the dam. I had hoped for better vis. No luck. About the same conditions. A little deeper. My wife and I lost Mike in the clouds so we surfaced. We were out of time (needed to head home)so we were headed back to the boat anyway. She and I surfaced in the middle of a group of swimmers. They had no idea what sort of big bubble producing thing was comming up right below them. I don't know why as my boat with dive flag was less than 75 yds away.
Nice day to blow bubbles. Really need to go in the spring when the vis is better.
