Compression Nut:
Guess I haven't watched the weather that closely. I can't believe the forecast is calling for flurries. Guess there's always the following weekend @ whitestar unless things change...

No kidding - we sure lucked out last weekend with the M&G... I was planning on driving back to Cincy to hit King's Island with a buddie this weekend - cold and wet does not make for a good time. I'm staying in Chicago...

should move to Ohio. :eyebrow:

Supposed to be high of 46 here all weekend with a chance of SNOW on Sunday. But I bet you could have the rides all to yourself. :)

I am officially cancelling out on going to Portage Quarry this weekend due to the weather forecast. I've been in touch with Jeff at Portage. He said he'd have someone at the quarry if we called and said we were coming. Otherwise, there wouldn't be anyone there.

On a good note, he had the following to say about the camping facilities...
"Have been working on putting additional Camping and electric and water hookups. About 10 now." That will definitely make camping at Portage nicer!

Also that the nasty weather has already started at the quarry... "I have had to send everybody home because it is cold and rain..It's not good."

See everyone at Whitestar next weekend.

What are the chances of getting one of those sites Say come next meet and greet time. I was only there once and it seemed to me the best place for a group gathering would be at the far end of the quarry in the field. Is he putting any electric down at that end or just up front?

I'm not sure but I just sent an email to Jeff with all the questions. As well as if this meant no more pit toilets!

I'll let everyone know as soon as I get an answer. May not be for a couple days given he's probably left for the day.

Well we did our campout, had 935 scouts and leaders there (below coshocton OH).
I ran the climbing tower w/ 4 more instructors, we were out in the rain for 11 hours Saturday but had a great time, a lot of cub scouts.
Even made it on the NBC news, http://www.whiznews.com/article.php?articleId=11527
I did some inverted rappels but didn't make the cut.
Even woke up Sunday morning w/ snow on our tents.

Tim,

More power to you. When the snow hit this weekend I was soooo glad we had cancelled out on diving at Portage.

Good to hear you had fun with the boy scouts. Volunteering is beneficial to both those receiving the help / attention as those giving their time and talents. We all need to do more for others.

Paula

I try to volunteer quite a bit, assistant Scoutmaster, AHA fa/cpr/aed instructor, 4H, climbing director for BSA, National Ski Patrol, NRA rifle, pistol, shotgun & personal protection instructor & GM emergency response team leader.

Here's a pic from recent campout
