I thinking the Liberty Ships might be another destination. The Texas Clipper is way South.

Don't forget the Texas Clipper and all the wrecks down around South Padre. Others that I can think of include SS John Worthington. There is also the Oaxaca. I wrote my thesis on a civil war era steamboat in the Caney Creek. You can dive it although it is not in the Gulf but in a river in south texas. These last 3 are not great dives but very interesting if you are in to Texas History.

Alot of misl. shrimpers you will come onto. Dive them at your own RISK.

Layne,
Does anyone ever dive the Oaxaca? I have searched online and cannot find any mention of this wreck.

Not sure. I doubt it. I am sure if you had enough interest you could get a charter to go out. I used to work for the Texas Historical commission and we dived on each of those sites plus many others. None are that great however and the conditions are very poor. I would stick with the clipper, rigs and flower gardens. Much better experience.

The Fogg is not the only Liberty ship reef, there are several wrecks-to-reefs projects in the Gulf.

There are also the jetties in Port Aransas.

There is also the Port Aransas Jetties. This is a shore entry via large rocks. There is all types of sealife to see and if you spearfish it is a good place also. Depths are shallow to approx. 45'. Vis can vary from 2-3 to 15-20 with the better vis being in late summer when the blue water comes in from the Gulf of Mexico. This dive site is also close to the SS John Worthington ship wreck as mentioned above. Yet you need a boat to get to the wreck. You can also catch a day trip out of Port Aransas to go dive the rigs. Local dive shops are Ascuba Venture and Copelands.
