Laps of flutter kick with a kickboard. Half the flutter kicks I see use WAY too much knee bend and 99% of us could use more aerobic activity.

Awareness - where are the swimmers in the pool? Do you know when they are within x meters?
I'll be in our own pool. It's a deep, diving pool but not overly long, I can do swim drills at the gym but that pool is only 3feet deep. We rent the city pool when hubby teaches a class but he's not teaching much right now since he's taking a double doctoral load, plus he's a research assistant.
So, just me, the dobe and the papillon. They don't really like swimming but I throw them in because it's good for them. The old chihuahua gets a buy.
