Don Janni:
*** Pootle Jacket......... Tech slang for a jacket style BC?

*** A tec diver wearing a poodle jacket would be like a harley biker riding a moped.

Why are tech divers and most bp/w divers so unsure of themselves? Why do they display so much self-doubt? Why do they feel they have to demean people with terms like Poodle Jacket and Stroke Why do they feel they have to criticize other peoples equipment? Is it their way of building themselves up by knocking down others?

When you think about, it's really pretty sad.

I'll let you know the answer to those questions when you stop beating your wife.

Think cork, it keeps yoiur head clear of the seas.

I was certified in '68 and was wreck diving off NJ before there was tech diving. I wear a poodle jacket :-). Didn't have none of that stuff back then :-O

I think I've seen you call a lot of people "Strokes" so it's no surprise to see you say something rude about me and about my wife. Follows suit... know what I mean.

I don't think anyone said anything rude about you or your wife. "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" is the classic example of a question with no correct answer.

And you are wrong, I've never called anyone a stroke in a derogatory manner.

And nobody I dive with ridicules other diver's gear.

It sounds like you've had some bad experiences with jackets to the point of you thinking they're worthless. I don't even see how your arms were restricted by a jacket. Especially when there's almost never a reason to have one fully inflated. When? at depth? on the surface? Something just doesn't sound right.

If I may help you to understand, Walter was referring to the "Jacket" style BC's. The ones with the Long sleeves :rofl3: . (As opposed to the "Vest" styles without sleeves) When you wear a long sleeved "jacket" style BC you cannot bend your arms to deflate the damn thing and submerge.:D

In a derogatory manner??? Now it's clear... gotcha!

yeah, occasionally i use it as a term of endearment for people who get the joke... you got me...

having never dived before, but a very strong swimmer even with a current, St Lawrence River, what type of BC would you recommend in cold water after i become certified?

I've never dived the St Lawrence, but I have dived strong currents and cold water (never both together). I'm no expert when it comes to cold water currents, in fact, I'm no expert when it comes to cold water. My experience in water colder than 50° F is extremely limited. If I were heading to the St Lawrence, I'd take my Scubapro Classic Sport.

Nemrod:
Once upon a time jacket BCs had an actual--plastic--back plate in them and these did not lift like in that picture--pehaps the industry will reintroduce a jacket with a backplate capable system, no frills, simple contrction, slim fit, no more than three or four D rings. It could be a winner.

Scubapro Classic Sport. It's never left.

Whoosh! Right over the head. I'm teasing. There are no jacket BCs. A jacket BC would have sleeves. Satire, my friend, satire. At least Pez understood.
