All right, folks.
Please, without going into discussion about whether pony is a good or a horrible idea (I’ve read all arguments from the both sides, most of them IMO are absolutely valid), could you share your experience and/or make suggestions on pony’s second stage placement and its hose length & routing?
The bottle is mounted on the side of the main tank.

Thanks.

Before I started diving doubles w/iso I used a pony on singles. Kind of a necessity for wreck dives here. My pony reg hose is about 40" and was attached with a quick release in the "golden triangle" to 'D' ring.

When I mounted my pony on my back, I had it upside-down. I had the hose run up and back down the side of it, held by a wrap of surgical tubing. The reg was right next to the valve knob, so you reached back, turned it on, and came back with the reg.

Near the end of the life of my back-mounted pony, I ran the reg up along the tank, across and over my right shoulder [the tank was on the left]. It was secured there and worked ok...

I wear my Pony side mounted clipped to my BCD.
I bungee the hose done the side of the pony then back up again, keeps it nice and neat and out of the way.
The Reg sits at the top of the pony and is easy to pull out of the bungee and use when needed

My pony is hard mounted on right side of main tank with the valve open (one less problem to deal with in an emergency. I use an air2 (there's another lively discussion) so I started with the pony reg in a scumball on the lower front of the BC. After each giant stride, it usually had to be retrieved. And, until I detuned it enough, I usually had a freeflow to deal with an a few 100 psi lost. I then moved it to a bungeed necklace and it hasn't gotten away since. Freeflows are rare and quickly detected and corrected. I was afraid it would be smacking me in the face but that hasn't been a problem, even with 4 & 5 foot strides.

Pearce has his pony in a pony tamer that is more or less permanently attached to the tank band of his Dive Rite BC on his right. It's mounted upside down so he can get to the talk valve himself, if need be.

Meanwhile, he put a longer hose on it so he could route it under his arm and hang the 2nd stage just below his octo.

Before I get screaming about "dangly bits", both the octo & the pony 2nd stage are well secured and streamlined.

But then, at 6'4", 320# how "streamlined" can a big guy be? ;)

Just my $0.02's worth,

These give me some food for thought. At the moment I think I like that first Spectre's setup. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Thanks again.
