What is the best way to do a pony set-up? Thank you.
Your profile says you have less than 15 dives, have been diving less than a year and you are a vacation diver.

Just wondering, why do you feel you need a pony?

Do you want to ride on top or get pulled along behind?:rofl3:

Somebody had better hide this from the tech crowd, it could get ugly again!

Actually I have 53 dives since February (all but 5 ocean dives). I have been to Hatteras twice and plan on returning this weekend coming up. On the last trip, my "buddy" never stayed in the water more than 5 minutes and I wound up having to buddy up with others (after the dive began), making a threesome. I would feel better if I had a pony set up in those waters, especially without a dependable buddy, especially when the visibility is low.

I have a Diva LX, not set up for two bottles. I use air sparingly, and the pony would be for regulator malfunction in an emergency. Just a small one, I should think. Just enough to get to the top with safety stop.

Do you clamp one on the main tank? How is the best way? Does the spare second stange come with the pony set up or do you purchase it separately?

Thanks.

While I do not like tank mounted pony bottles, the Tiger Gear mounting system seems quite popular. The coolest one I've seen is the system from NorthernDiver, but I am not sure if these are available in the US. A british diver brought one by the shop for us to see (for rebreathers) and I was very impressed.

You'll be purchasing a first and second stange in order to use a pony system.

Best of luck.

Maybe I should have called this "Spare Air", not pony? How you do rig up spare air. believe me, this is not to extend bottom time---it is for emergency only, when buddy disappears. (I know, I need a new buddy) Thanks.

I mount my 19cf pony on my tank. Check out Scubatoys.com, Larry has a nice pony tank holder. It works well and I can still reach the valve on it. And if you had to, you could pull the pin and remove the tank underwater.

How about a 13cf slung ? Some will say it's too small, but IMHO, it is enough for recreational diving in a "loose" buddy system. And before the preachers say get a better buddy, that is easier said then done when you are vacation diving and the buddy is assigned to you.
