I'm honestly not a fan of the buddylines, we used it digging, and they are dangerous IMO, easy to drag a buddy to the surface with them, or to get them tangled on whatever you are working on.

lol... CM, do you really want to start a buddy line debate in the solo forum?

40 is a great size. If slung I go on the left, if rigid I'd go on the right.

TomP:
Be mindful that, with a few exceptions, most regulators are 'right handed' so if you put the bottle on the left you'd route the hose behind your head and then over your right shoulder.

This is why I love this forum!

By the way, I dive a BP/W and I have all together 6 d-rings on it (2 shoulder, 2 hip and two on my crotch strap) .

Anyway back to the point...I think I currently have a 40" hose on it. It was fine when I was practicing with it on my right, moving it to my left and routing the hose behind my head may change that. What is the consnesus on how long this hose should be?

Have a happy holiday folks!

Cheers,

Chris

Sling it on the left. This is pretty standard (and very DIR) for deco bottles or stages . Has the advantage of keeping a long hose clear of any possible entanglement .

If you are diving with a short hose and using the tank only as a pony it probably does not matter much which side it goes on,but there is no reason not to put it on the left.

A 40 inch hose should work well when the hose is looped over the back of your neck.It is a secure and comfortable way to route things, and another reason to put the tank on the left!

I harvest on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. Been blown out by gales for the last week - 10 days. Itching to get back 2 work

40" should be fine, mine is 36" and works fine for me.

40" is the standard length for the hose on a deco bottle. So it should be fine for your purposes too. Having a reg with a swivel on it makes it route easier too. As someone else pointed out you wrap the hose around the back of your neck so it comes in from the right hand side.

Sling on the left. That way if you progress with your training someday you will already be used to your bottle on the correct side.

..... For X-mass I asked Santa for a big *** pony bottle...one that down the road I wouldn't be looking at it and thinking I wish got something bigger.

Pretty sure Santa was woofing down pure O2 off your tank trying to catch his breath sliding down chimmey's that night.

I'd back mount it, that's a big bottle!!

OK Paddler you had three choices: On your back. Sling Left. Sling right. What did you decide? Why?

Just want to add to my data base by including your solution and rationale.
