Me again!

Has anyone heard about or stayed at Pom Pom resort in the Sipadan area? It ranks as the #1 choice on TripAdvisor, but as it is new there are only 12 reviews, while Kalapai has 107- the main complaint against Kalapai which catches my attention is that the food there is BAD greasy stuff which could cause gastric interference with my diving pleasure.

Thanks!
Shivaya

Hi Again,

Pom Pom Resort is close to Semporna but very far from Sipadan, as far as I know, they do not have any permits to dive Sipadan. It is not a dedicated dive resort, although you can dive from the resort but only the sites close to Semporna.

If you are interested in Pom Pom, you should have a look at Mataking Reef Dive Resort - prettier resort, nicer island and better diving :)

I thought Kapalai's food was excellent with alot of variety offered. Just stay away from the fried stuff.
The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. The staff professional. I'll probably never stay anywhere as nice again!

I spent two months in the region, and never heard a bad word about Kapalia. Pom Pom is a little further out, but is a beautiful resort. Kapalia is on a sand bank. I guess it depends on what is more important to you. If you want space, then go to Pom Pom. If you want to be closer to Sipadan and don't mind being on a resort built on top of the water, go Kapalai. Both are great - they simply offer something different....

Hi guys we are in the middle of planning a trip to Borneo and would like suggestions on the best island resort for us. Dad, Mum & 14 yr son, 1 diver and 2 novice (sitting our tickets now!!) so will probably do more snorkeling. Coming from KK and staying 4 - 6 nights, looking for nice relaxing environment but with things to do if want, also good food is important.
What would you suggest? (being looking closely at Pom Pom or Lankayan??)
Any help would be great. Cheers

We just got back yesterday from Borneo. Heard raves about Lankayan but it was fully booked so I was unable to get in. Also, being out of Sandakan, you could add see some of the great sights around Sandakan before or after your Lankayan trip. Sandakan area has Sepilok the orangutan reserve, the probocsis monkey reserve (LOVED that), and the Kinabatagan River wildlife spotting river cruise. I loved the Sandakan area.

If you choose the SIpadan area instead, I would recommend staying on Mabul island at the Smart divers beach resort, very kid friendly, plus snorklers can go out on the dive boats with their scuba friends and snorkel the same dive site....can't say enough good about Smart divers Mabul Sipadan- it was easily our peak diving experience ever and the resort itself is utterly charming.

Hi Amanda,

When are you planning on going to Borneo?

Lankayan Diving Resort is fantastic for beginner divers, complete your certification before you go or finish off the training dives at the resort.

Lankayan is a little slice of paradise on a remote island with white powdery beaches and offering plenty of easy diving over pristine reefs. The snorkelling is thrilling with black tip reef sharks cruising the shallows. Meals are served as a relaxed buffet with lots of choice or al la carte, there is even BBQ.

When you are not diving or snorkelling, there is beach volley ball and kayaking and a TV room and a library. Bring your own PC as wiifi is available or use the computers at the resort.

Hi There
Thanks for your reply's. They're very helpful. We are planning on traveling late Sept. early Oct. this year.
Do you think Lankayan is better than Pom Pom?
Cheers
