I like to carry a 4' pole as a stringer/ flounder gig/ tickle stick for lobster. Does anyone know of a good way to mount this to the tank for easy access?

Actually, I think that'd be a bad idea. It's illegal to spear lobster, and having one on a pole spear (even if collected legally) might sit wrong with Mr. FWC.

Also, for a stringer, you want something that you can enclose so that the fish don't slip off. I've attached a clip to my stringer, and clip it to a d ring until I get fish on it, then I carry it after that.

so you use one of the safety pin type stringers? I was considering a pole with a "t" at the end to keep the fish on and then just a small mesh bag in the bc for spineys. I know better than to spear a lobster.

Yes, I use the safety pin type. The problem I see is after you have a fish. I hold on to my stringer after I've got one in case I need to let go quickly.

Not sure about what you're getting at here. Would the stringer stay attached to your tank? How would this work?

I had been carrying my stringer rigged like this:

Problem is, if I have fish on and a large predator decides to grab them I might be going for a ride. Potentially a serious problem if I'm low on air at the time. With that brass clip on a D ring on my BC, I think it could be very difficult to release it if I'm being dragged by the stringer. Thanks to a comment by Pat, I used a blown out rain day one saturday to modify it. I bought a utility strap with a quick release buckle at Walmart for about $2, and the I used a stitch-awl to sew the strapping the way I wanted it. I now have this:

AT least now if something grabs it and I need to get free, one pinch of the buckle will to the trick:
