The pockets present no drag as they are in the slip stream of your shoulders and arms. And they give you a place to stick stuff that would otherwise be dangling and draging around.

In my pockets,
Right- Wet Notes, spool pre-loaded with an smb
Left- Spare Mask, spool, whistle, EMT Shears, extra double end snap bolt.

Oh, and the occasional golf ball or what ever else I find that doesn't belong.

Also handy for line arrows, deco tables, underwater maps, writing instruments, a spare computer/timer, etc. If you need tools underwater to fix things, they make a great place for that. Like a small adj. wrench, allen key tool, scuba-tool, etc.

I like the d ring inside the DUI pockets. I clip my spool off to it in my right pocket with a spare light. My left pocket has my backup mask and any bottles or neat stuff I find. They keep you clean and streamlined. Would not dive without them.

Pockets:

On the way out:

* Dive stuff... Wetnotes, spare mask, shears, blah blah... all DIR stuff.
* Lemon (amazing dive toy...)
* Pink Squirt Gun - always a croud pleaser

On the way back in:

* Cool rocks I may find
* Operculum
* Chestnut Cowrey Shell
* Key Hole Limpit Shell
* Hank of fishing line, or other lethal trasheesh

I never dive without pockets

Pocket option is a "Must Have" one. I only have one pocket with a sport package option. I regret it a lot....... a lot.......... a lot.........

Most of the people who find pockets useful are using a back plate and wing for a BC. The BP/W usually does not have built in pockets. If you are using a BC that has pockets, typically a standard jacket style BC or some of the back inflate varieties then you would most likely not need the pockets on the dry suit. If you do not have pockets on your BC then either you do not carry certain items or you get pockets on the suit.

The choice is entirely up to you.

RSdiver:
I've been through two+ wet suits and a dry suit before buying a DUI custom at this weeks LDS Scuba Fair (20% OFF). The rep that fitted me asked 3 times if I wanted options including pockets. I had to stop and cell phone a friend/Long time DUI diver and ask about the pockets - they seem like heavy drag underwater and I've never needed them to store stuff in nor missed them on any previous suit.

Am I missing something?
Do others here find the pockets useful or are they just a cumbersome drag on underwater movement?

It depends, where do you keep your DSMB, reel, backup mask, wetnotes, etc now?

:confused: What for?

Lemon's are barely positive. They make great playthings....

When doing a second dive on a site, or if I know the site is going to be a big yawn, or if I just want to surprise my buddy - I'll toss one in the pocket. They spin, they hover in the column and they're colorful subjects - I have several series I've shot with divers and fruit at various depths. Its striking, unusual and graceful.

Kona, HI. 2 miles off the coast in 6200 feet of blue water. Shot at 104 feet

And most of all, they're just silly fun underwater.

I've tried all manner of fruit (don't make me break out the list) - just trust me, Lemons are the most durable and most fun.

Although it was pretty cool to watch a fish maul a tangerine once. Great pics there, too.
