But what happens if I need to deploy it underwater?!?!?!

If you can't open your pocket and unclip something underwater while maintaining boyancy you can't be DIR. At least they got that right:D
 
I did a little DIY and came up with the smallest boltsnap on the Storm whistle...

It isn't about ability but time. It is obvious that if I need to deploy the whistle I need to do it quickly. Having it clipped on a D ring allows for faster deployment than if it was in a pocket.


It should be even more obvious that I'm just f-ing around here

Just curious but does UTD not put a strong emphasis on removing entanglement hazards and clutter where ever possible or is this a personal thing?

Its not obvious to me. Even 2 mins to fish the whistle out of your pocket is not really all that critical. The only time 2 mins is "life or death" to any diver is if your OOG.
