Thanks fisherdvm! I agree that marketing is fun, except of course for the negative attitude people tend to have towards marketers. Thank you for your suggestion about the databases but this is in fact research for a class project and I am enjoying the very different types of responses I am getting here. I realize I might be naive and maybe I didn't start this from the right angle but I am trying! And...this is only a small part of my research.

Dhartshorn,
As it appears to me you are serious in this quest – by frequent checks to see what’s been said. I agree much of what you ask for can be located by you just reading what goes on. (I assumed you were doing that already and just asked us what we thought.) Just in case…I’ll point out some features here you may not be aware of I think you might find useful.

Should you have reason to attempt to speak with any of the members individually there is the PM thing – Private Message. PM’s do not show up to anyone else and are an opportunity for more candid conversation. Clicking on the members name in the left box opens a menu to access this. Reading and responding to them is up to the recipient.
The same menu will get to ‘find more posts by XYZ’ person and provide additional thoughts and communications this person has been involved in.
Your time zone may not be very compatible with the bulk of member activity. The top header bar has a link ‘Scubaboard’ with a menu for selecting the active topics for a period of days.
Looking through ‘Forums’ is rather extensive but will allow specific topic perusal such as travel by location, gear or local community events and discussions.
To find your thread you can subscribe to it. Or ‘Quick Links’ gets the menu to select post history and take you to your last (or any) entry.

This thread you may find interesting ScubaBoard - If I should die while diving.. Has a lot to do with bonding, values, concerns – perhaps the most commonly shared amongst this board.

And BTW, welcome to ScubaBoard, the greeters must have missed you.

If you are cute, post a picture of yourself, preferably in a very warm weather apparel. The manly type will respond quickly to your post and your PM....

Life is a learning experience. Some lessons are painful, but if you survive them you will be a better person for making the mistake. Some lessons are caustic in that they dig on the ego, again if you survive you will be a better person.

Personally, I think the original poster is taking the hits on this one extremely well and applaud the backbone used in doing so.

Thank you to all who contributed! I have shared your responses with my group and we are turning in our summary with our conclusions tomorrow. Please continue to share if you would like, I will keep checking on a regular basis to read interesting/helpful threads and check up on this one! Thanks again ya'll!
