I have done everything I can to get my Smart(?)Com dive computer to work with my Advanced Systems IRDA interface without luck. My interface software knows it's looking at a Smartcom, but my Uwatec SmartTrak software does not see the computer. As a result, I cannot change the default settings in the dive computer, nor can I download dive info for my log book.

If anyone has experienced any success with the Smartcom IR interface, can you PLEASE post which IR interface device you are using? I am ready to buy a new one if it will work and throw the first one I bought in the trash......

Best Wishes to All,

Jack in Phoenix

Jack,

I have two smart Coms and have had no trouble getting either one to talk via IR. I never opened the CD that came with the computers, I just downloaded whatever was on their website. I am using a toshiba laptop. I did not go through any special setup or anything. Just installed the software and it pretty much worked on the first try.

When I make changes to the defaults, it usually takes two tries to download it back to the computer ... The first time gives me an error every time. The second time seems to work. I am not sure why.

Can you get anything else that speaks irda to talk to your interface? I believe there was another thread where people had mentioned success using a USB->IRDA adapater that dell sells for $70 or so.

Download the latest software from UWATEC's Internet site. They are continually updating the software to remove bugs, etc. The CD is obsolete by the time you get it, so don't use it. Hope this helps. Iain

Hi

I have a SmartPro which also uses IR for comms.
I bought a Tekram IR410U infrared port and it works fine.
Initially I had some communication problems until I found out that you have to hold the SmartPro real close to the IR sensor (about 4 0r 5 centimeters).
If I do this, it works every time.

Best Luck

I had to activate the IR part in my computer first then it took a few tries to find the sweet spot where the two IR windows could see each other. After that it worked fine. With Smart Track open and the Smartcom powered up, when the two IR devices see each other there is a tone to let you know they have located each other.

I did not use the software that had come on the disc I had downloaded the software form the web site. Alos I bought a usb IR from www.compusb.com and the interface is great. I love the smart com.
Good luck
I have been able to change the setting on the first try.
