It is a retracted soft coral of some kind
 
I think corallimorph of some sort is correct.
By the way, I can see both the thumbnail and picture in the first post, and the big picture in Rick's post.

I agree a corallimorph, I would say a bleached or oddly colored ricordia species, althought that column makes me think twice.
 
I'm going to disagree about a corallimorph and say it's an anemone (similar creature, but larger). Corallimorphs generally attach to hard substrate and are often found in colonies. A single individual in a sandy area is more likely an anemone. Knowing the approximate size would help determine this.
