I just got back from a trip to Playa Mujeres Mexico. Stayed at the Excellence resort which was awesome. I have been diving for many years and I usually hate diving with the "resort" operation with 15 other "resort course" students on some convenient shallow reef... so I did some research before going out there and came across Scorpio Divers. They seemed to have good reviews and I contacted them just before I departed to arrange for some diving. Ben and Jorge gave me great advice on how to make the most of my trip. I was with my girlfriend who was recently certified so I was limited as to how advanced of a dive we could actually do. Ben recommended Puerto Morelos for a wreck/reef trip. I personally was more excited about heading to Cozumel but I didnt realize how far I was from there. It would have been a 2-3 hour journey just to get to the dive site. So Puerto Morelos was the call. Ben came and picked us up at our hotel and in less than an hour we were jumping into a small skiff with only one other diver...which was great compared to the roster of 18 I saw on the resort dive. The wreck dive was awesome...more so for my girlfriend who has never dived in the carribean or on/in a wreck for that matter. We penetrated the hull and swam the entire length of the wreck. The best part about diving with Ben was that you got to dive like you would have here at home (New Jersey)...no crowds, no set 30 minute max dive time...we dove our air/tank which resulted in a beatiful 40 minute dive. I highly recommend scorpio Divers if you want to have a unique dive experience without the "resort dive" template that usually annoys the hell out of experienced divers.
