I'm posting in 'Mexico' because most locals check out this area AND I need some advice from PDC locals. I posted on the 'playa.info' board but I haven't yet received the info I need. I can't get cable where I am in PDC (they finished the road before the lines were put in). I wanted cable+internet but I had to put in satellite. Now I need internet but I also want to combine it with telco, specifically Vonage or some other VOIP. What is the best/cost effective way? Is IUSACELL broadband - locals will know what I'm talking about - compatible with VOIP? I am not computer savy so be gentle. I just want to be hooked up and have some way of calling back to Canada/US without buying phone cards all the time and walking down to the Ladatel/Telmex on the corner.

Our building has no cablemas as well and we had to get sky (although our friends actually brought down a satellite from Canada and get service from that). The only reasonable option we found was with Telmex and a phone line internet combo. While I don't know anything about the compatibility, our friend that uses IUSACELL has complained on more than one occasion about the slowness and unreliability of the signal.
Hope someone else knows more than that.

Do you remember off-hand how long it took to get the service once you placed the order with TelMex. Also is the service DSL or dial-up? Sorry to be a pest. I'll be in PDC next Monday and was hoping to get some info before I get there. I can't seem to find anything usefull with just a Google search.

Hey Ed - no cable where my place is either. I use SKY for satellite, and Telmex land line for internet, it's high speed. They were REALLY fast when I had it put in, and the service has actually been great ever since when I needed them.

I use Skype to call back north - it's something like 2.5 cents a minute to call land lines, and my connection is usually just fine.
