I'm a new diver, looking for something light for warmish water (Caribbean, and the local dive lagoon when the water is colder, but not really cold). I'm thinking something on the order of 1.5mm; barely enough to be considered wetsuit, but a little better than a rash guard.

The question is that I can easily get 2 pieces that fit (I'm different sizes top and bottom), and have no problem with using 2 pieces that don't look exactly the same. I'd expect that I might put a little velcro or a brass snap to keep them from gapping (obviously plenty of overlap).

I could get a custom 1-piecer, but 2 pieces somehow seems more versatile; I can go with just the bottom, or just the top, depending on what feels cold that day. Not to mention the instant gratification of getting it.

Thoughts?

Have a look for 4th Element Thermocline and/or Sharkskin dive products. These are non-neoprene/fleece type exposure suits. Equal thermal protection to 2-3mm of neoprene, but they are neutrally buoyany, machine washable, quick to dry and very lightweight for travelling.
