i also encountered it using panasonic and energizer alkalines & oxyride(?). better have it checked to be sure. and yes, the same happened to me, 2nd dive everything works fine. not sure if the same is the case with your cam though.

methinks one of the buttons in the housing is pressing in, ie spring is losing its tension. I had a similar problem with my housing/camera with a separate function.
