I went to visit my mom on the east coast of Florida last week and managed to get down to Key Largo for three days of shallow reef dives. Saw lots of cool fish. Water was 77F and vis 50-70 feet. Since I was solo I got my Digital UW Photo and Nitrox certs. And I saw my first real shark (not just a nurse shark). A Caribbean Reef Shark cruised by within about 15 feet and it happened on my 100th dive! It was very cool and I even managed to get a photo, not a good photo but at least proof.
Here are some photos:
French Angelfish - saw these on most dives - this one let me take about 10 photos
Queen Angelfish - only saw a couple of these
Gray Angelfish - saw only this one
Porkfish - saw lots of these every dive
Spotfin Butterflyfish - these were hard to catch
Trumpetfish
Barracuda - I wasn't sure how close to get once I saw those teeth
Florida Lobster - this one is waiting for Tom!
Southern Stingray - just came in for a landing in the sand
Southern Stingray - he let me get to within about 3 feet
Caribbean Reef Shark - on my 100th dive!
Larry Gates - my photo instructor - trying to get a shot of a passing barracuda

Hope to get out and dive with the Beach Crabs in a few weeks.
