Hi agian

Can anyone comment on how Perhentian compares to Ko Tao or Phi Phi in relation to diivng and the above landlife!!

Know that Phi Phi are a little better in diving than Ko Tao, but how does Perhentian fit into this!!!!!

Ko Tao seems like a more laidback area and relxed place than Phi Phi!!!!

Since I have been to Perhentian in 1999 I would really like some advices on this!!!!

This may be a bit late, but Phi Phi is really commercialised whereas perhentian and koh tao are not that bad. Phi Phi diving and koh tao i believe is better than perhentian but difference is minute, so they are all great sites.

hope this info helps
have you gone yet?
the little perhentian island is a gorgeous place, it has a lot of mediocre dive sites but two excellent sites;
'the temple of the sea' - this really is a temple
'xerox'- a pristine current swept coral garden opposite long island
you can snorkell and see black tip reef sharks and hump head parrot fish ( I also saw golden trevallies, scribbled filefish, octopus and a turtle as well whilst snorkelling)
koh tao has a lot of ordinary dive sites -but there are a few excellent sites; the best is chumpon pinnacles, twin rocks is sweet and shark island is interesting. I didnt snorkell here becuase there are a lot of boats skimming around.
koh pipi - never been but the best dive sites around the island can be dived as a day trip from raileh beach on the mainland, this is a dream place to stay, I reckon koh pipi is a tourist farm. It would be a nightmare to go there after raileh beach.
take it easy

Hi !

I think Ko Tao is the best of all three... If you go to Taatoh Lagoon (SE of the island) you'll find great beach, not so many tourists and a good diving center. Chumpon Pinnacle is a beautiful dive, but there are MANY others that are worth a try !!! I was supposed to stay there for a week, I couldn't leave before 3 !

Perhantian is not so good when it comes to diving, but the landscape is absolutely beautiful.

Phi Phi is very touristic and can get quite expensive at high season... I dunno about the diving there though...

If you need more info, post more questions

I was in Phi Phi last October, it was a truly enjoyable dive. If you enjoy nite scenes, there's plenty to offer in Phuket.

Perhentian on the other hand wasnt as good as Phi Phi, but really serene / virgin island.

If you're interested to go to Phi Phi, Calypso Divers offer quite good deals and they're really friendly!

Hope this lil' bit helps!

Where is Perhentian ?
Perhaps near Georgetown in Malaysia?

Perhentian Island is off the north-east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Together with Redang, Lang Tengah and Tenggol islands, they formed some of the most popular dive destinations for Malaysian divers.

Georgetown on the other hand is on Penang Island, which is off the west coast (no diving there, bad vis). You can get more info on the net on Perhentian Island by searching the keyword 'Perhentian'.

But season has influence, I believe. The moonsoons are opposite in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. Winter is great for Phi Phi. Phi Phi is okay but I enjoyed Perehentian very much too. And I enjoyed most above water.

Phi Phi has quite a few great dives sites. The Bida islands and PP Leh are quality and if you do the wreck, you can also do Anenome Reef and Shark point on the same trip. These are all great dives with good vis depending on the time of the month. The wreck is only starting to develop coral but I've never seen so many lion and scorpion fish on one dive. I've heard good things about the Perhentians but I know firsthand that just a little further south, there's great diving on Palau Redang. My favorite dive trip was there. I haven't dived on Ko Tao but I hear it's not worth the trip if it's diving you're really interested in. It's probably a great place to get certified, really cheap and still decent sites but everyone I asked said they were hugely disappointed with Ko Tao.
