I just purchased an Ikelite 6095 for my Canon HF S10 and am now looking for a good protective case for traveling with it. I will likely add two Ikelite 6320 Pro-V8 LED Video Lights in the future. Current plan is to carry on the video recorder when traveling, but check the housing, lights, etc.

Was looking at the Pelican 1600 case for this need. I believe it is large enough. Anyone have any experience with it or other recommendations?

Thanks.
Kevin

Pelican cases are great in some respects and a nightmare in others. We bought a 1610 (I think that is the one we own) and used it for 4 years with a video housing and also a full still camera setup in it. Every time we go through customs coming back from a trip we have issues. Some TSA think it is too large (it isn't) but since it is a hard case they make us get in another line and run it through the xray with all the oversized bags. Another time they threw it on the side and said that they would get around to it later! Sheesh, I kinda want my bags on the same plane as I am on! Really frustrating.
Another issue is weight... they are about 24 lbs empty, so once you start putting in camera gear you are pushing 45lbs or more.

We are now looking at trying to carry everything on with us. We have a smaller camera bag which counts as a personal bag and we put the batteries and all cameras and camcorders in that. Then we have 2 carryon bags, one with video housing rig (including batteries and charger, light system, etc), one with still camera housing stuff (housing, ports, lenses, chargers). Our other personal bag has regulators and small laptop in it. Crazy, yes, but we are going to try this on our trip in April! We need to practice pack at least a few times to see which way works best.

A couple of carryon bags you might want to look at:
