I have a pelagic type Aeris Elite wrist computer, and am wondering if anyone with this computer (or brethren such as the Oceanic VT Pro) has any experience replacing the strap. I've seen similar posts for Suunto products, and am wondering if anyone has used the 5th Dimension strap, or even regular sport watch straps (eg Casio, Timex). Even with a full 7mm wetsuit, the stock band is huge, and when I dive warm water there isn't enough space to tuck in the loose strap end. I'd prefer a true strap to a bungie system, but I'm open to other attachment ideas (duct tape aside), including tips on use with a retractor mount. I know this isn't likely to generate a lot of response posts, but I had to try...

Yes, you can use the standard watch strap with the Aeris / oceanic. We stock the C straps - they are about 10 bucks, you remove the old strap, put the pins back in, then just thread it through.

The other thing a lot of people do is opt for the Aeris Retractor

And here I was thinking nobody would write...
C = Casio?

No... it's actually C for Cetacea... You've seen them... they get sold under a bunch of names but a lot of divers use them for their watches. They way the strap works, if you break a pin, you don't loose the watch ( or computer) because the band threads through both pins.... Here a picture is worth...

Hi,

I have a similar problem with diving either a 7 mm wetsuit for California, or diving in the Caribbean. I found velcro bands with a compensating spring mechanism from Trident. The spring is supposed to compensate for wetsuit compression and keep the watchband tight. The length is fairly easy to adjust as I switch diving between California and the Caribbean. Like other alternative bands, it fits under each of the two pins. I converted all of my wrist accesories to these Trident bands.

You may or may not like it, so try to see one before you buy. They may be hard to find at a LDS. Mine special orderd them for me.

Here's the Trident webpage:

Thanks Larry and Carbon, for your input. I've looked at the Cetacea at my LDS, but they don't have one set up with a centerline pin and holes to adjust strap length as in your photo. Their velcro-only "ultra-secure" strap is very hard to adjust for length while on the wrist (I tried it myself). The trident strap looks interesting, to the extent one can see it on their bargain basement low resolution website. I'll see if I can find one to try.
