This afternoon I went for two dives with FencingFish off of Pebble Beach in Rockport. The water temperature was around 45-47 on each dive with a max depth of 20 feet on the first dive and 24 ft on the 2nd. The visibility was about 8 to 12 feet on the first dive and about 8 feet on the 2nd. The first dive there were a bunch of crabs and a few lobster, although both of the lobster seemed undersized. There was also a sea raven scooting about. On the 2nd dive we saw a few flounder, a few lobster and what we thought was an ocean pout but we weren't sure. All in all we got in a few good dives but we started getting chilled during the 2nd dive so we called it at 30 minutes.

Lewis, thanks for the dive report!

Were any of the flounder keeper size (12")? I'm getting hungry for flounder fillets.... :D

The marine forecasts for the area had pretty stiff south winds for a couple days and I'm curious about your visibility. How was it?

I added the vis to the first post but it was 8 to 12 on the first and then more like 8 feet on the 2nd.

The flounder were probably right around keeper size, mmmm flounder...

LewisEvans and I had a great couple of dives. Vis wasn't great from all the rain the night before, but the light was good and there was great color in the algae and kelp. We didn't see any small flounder, they were all right around keeper size. Water is still a bit cold for diving wet, but if you're determined to get that second dive in and warm up in the sun first, it makes the cold a little more bearable. It was definitely an ocean pout that we saw on the second dive (after looking around google images and fish guides), it was maybe just over 2.5 feet long with a yellowish-green fleshy body and large pectoral fins. A very exciting find!

Getting more psyched to get out again soon. Was cut short a couple of weeks ago at the Poling by equipment problems and poor vis. My dive buddy (son) is returning home from college this weekend. I unfortunately have to work:depressed: Hopefully out next weekend! Some of my favorite dives are in the spring. Warm weather and the water is cool so better vis.
