We are trying to plan a family vacation for 2 weeks sometime in late October - end of November. My husband and I are avid divers but will be the only divers in the group. My son wants somewhere that he can surf. He's only a beginner/intermediate surfer so nothing terribly extreme is needed. His wife and her parents don't do either and are happy with whatever we come up with. Does anyone have any suggestions of destinations that would suit our needs.... Help!!!

Hawaii? I don't know alot about it but I do know you can do both dive and surf on most islands.

Bonaire has great windsurfing, check it out here: Info Bonaire - World Championship Windsurfing for Beginners through Experts

I know there are people who surf in south Florida and also out in Southern California both... and there is diving at both.
Calif is cold water diving though - excellent diving, better diving than Fla in my opinion, but you will need 7mm wetsuits.

Do you have a price range or anything special the group wants to do?

Hawaii is a no-brainer choice - go for it!

Yeah you can join the masses and go to Hawaii. But my vote would be Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Easy surfing, great diving, inland hikes, sea kayaking, mangroves. Fly into Liberia rent a jeep and go play.
