We know that 70% of the earth is covered in water, and we suspect that percentage is rising at the rim of ocean nations.
Gary Simpson, Laguna Beach, California, artist, has been collecting soils from the 192 members of the United Nations for six years, to be finally mixed into a 50’ x 50’ fresco installation representing one thing that humans share without argument—the soil upon which we live.
Common Ground 191 needs only 18 more samples to complete the process. Some of them are countries on beach destinations for ScubaBoard members. Micronesia, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands are very important to the project—locations enjoyed by your colleagues as wonderful diving sites.
Please reply to this notice requesting that volunteers collect and send approximately two cups of soil per listed country to our project. Participants can go to , view the list of countries still remaining, submit the volunteer form, and the process will be initiated. Gary Simpson will pay all shipping costs.
Thank you in advance for your help in collecting and memorializing our common ground.
