I diagnosed a local instructor as having suffered an embolism or stroke based on partial paralysis of one side of the face and garbled speech. I am not a doctor, but had a "stroke" 20 years ago so I was aware of the symptoms. Fortunately the instructor (a rather macho ex-Marine) took my advice and sought medical help immediately. As it was, he was hospitalized and couldn't return to diving for over one year.
