Some friends of mine cave, dive, and cave dive with Paralenz cameras strapped to the side of their helmets. I would like to do similar, but the company went bust.

Is there a decent alternative with a similar form factor?

I believe there was an old model of Olympus that has a side/slim profile that should fit the side of a helmet. However, as it's pretty old model (more than 5 years, I think), it would be difficult to find now.

Alternatively, there are a couple of camera under "Insta360" brand that also has slim profile, namely their X series (X3, X4 are the more current model). However, these camera record a "Sphere" around it. so if attached to the side of a helmet, it would blocked on one side.

If you want a Paralenz buy a Paralenz

In an ideal world, that would be great, but I am wary of buying an expensive gadget that has no warranty and no aftersale support, with a connectivity app that doesn’t exist anymore.

So buy used build one yourself or start a thread on peeling potatos
I own one old one used it recently, and own two new ones for later

That's my take on ideal

Did you sideload the app, or do you just pull the video from the SD card?

I am tempted try and build a clone, but at the moment I don’t access to a lathe - not even one for peeling potatos.

Look I like to live unencumbered so I don't have a mobile phone so if this is sideloading then no
I'm still using a Paralenz with the blue ring and plug it into the computer or put the card in there
They come up for sale, I've just pulled a couple of Vaquitas out of their packaging and charging?

I shall see

One just sold on here

When Paralenz was closing I bought two new Vaquitas to trench proof myself
Took them out of the box this week charged them and they work quite nicely

Plug the camera into the laptop VLC Media Player then it does whatever it does

Another trench proofer unless your head falls off and I also control my head from darting around
to see what's waiting around the corner to eat me or where buddies are as it detracts from diving
So quite stable video

Bolted to head

Not even an app in sight

Otherwise it's just not a Paralenz
