I gave coordinates to Halfway Reef to Michael Zeigler, but when Kevin Lee and I arrived Mike was diving another reef two hundred feet inshore. We decided to check it out to see if it was worth diving. The kelp was thick but manageable. We explored the reef and found many nudibranch eggs and lots of fish and crabs. I decided to call it Zeigler Reef, after all, he was here first.
Zeigler Reef is a small reef seven hundred feet off the point between Christmas Tree Cove and Honeymoon Cove. If diving from shore, the trail at Christmas Tree is easier. Of course, not many of the Palos Verdes trails are what most reasonable people consider easy. 33° 45.783N 118° 25.487W
The reef tops out at 44 feet with the base in 65 feet.
