Just for my planning:
As Palau is expensive and I do not want to carry around plenty of cash, I thought about using ATMs (smaller places will not accept traveller cheques or credit cards and getting USD here is a bit hit and miss!).
Is there an ATM at the airport that accepts Cirrus/Maestro? Otherwise, how much is the taxi to downtown Koror?
Are there other reliable ATM for Maestro in Koror, and do you know about the transaction limit?
Cheers,
Liberty

Here are two ATM's that I've used a lot in Palau:
Bank of Guam(airport), and Bank of Hawaii (by West Plaza Desekel Hotel in Koror).

Phone in advance and inquire about their ATM/Banking Services. . .

The Palau Pacific resort has a free shuttle bus

I would say take around three hundred in small bills and use your CC everywhere else.

(been five times) Oh and if you want storyboards, plan on around 100-300 apiece. Even the jail takes CC's.

They use US currency, you probably know that. Not a lot of theft that I am aware of at the hotels, everybody pretty much leaves stuff around. The only thing really pricey about Palau is the airfare due to a relative monopoly by Continental. Hotels like the West Plaza Molakal can be had for under 100 dollars.

I don't know which operator you are using but you can even just put your tip on at the end with your CC if you like doing it that way. I like to tip in cash along the way, maybe 10-20 dollars day depending on what I want and what I get I think you get better service that way, otherwise they don't know you from the guy who tips 0.00 until you are gone.

because of the time zone and the hotel shuttle, your last night you get stuck paying for an extra day and THEN they try and dump you at the airport at 10 PM so they can go home. Your flight is usually around 2 am or so.if doing a US connection. What works better for me is to sleep and take a cab at MN...maybe share with somebody else at your hotel. Because once at the airport, it is You and a little metal folding chair. Four hours is a long time to sit there when you have a nice bed paid for some minutes away.

I contacted Bank of Guam. They mailed back, but did not answer my questions...
That is why advice is appreciated.
Cheers,
Liberty

Bank of Guam on Pohnpei takes Cirrus, Maestro and Star Alliance Cards, therefore the ATM's on Palau should as well. . .

Curious....if you are using Euros, don't you get better conversion using something like Am X or a CC card?
Is Germany on Euros? or did ya'll keep your francs like England kept the pound?

It's nice and cool at the airport too...
freezing. Hey did you see that sign for the line that said "FAT" with the big arrow? We laughed so hard, I have a picture somewhere.

The USD is really weak right now and equals the Canadian dollar 1:1 for the first time in 40 years or something.
I'd be more concerned with checking coversions because they are really fluctuating right now and Indonesia sometimes has a big lag....don't know about Micronesia.

he he..maybe you should just use moneybeads!

You're going to start an international incident. Germany replaced the Deutsche Mark with the Euro.

lol

whew, I said franc...oops

but did anybody get my point?

I can't be bothered with little details.

So who opted out, just Britain?

Wait a minute, I didn't use Euros the last time in France...oh maybe I did. Those pesky little bathroom coins have caused me to blank it all out. ...maybe Sarkozy will fix that:D
