BikerManiac:
Can you guys post how much you are paying for the airfare to Palau?. I need to find tickets to either Yap or Palau for end of March. But I will be in Asia (HK)

Thanks

Trip planning is so stressful

Check with Cindy of Micronesia Dive Association. Everyone says she has great deals out of Asia, I think. We met her at Kramer's and she seemed nice.

Need some input quick!
Found out that the hotel I thought I'd booked - West Plaza Malakal - has no rooms available (2nd time that's happened while planning this trip). So....I have to choose another. Don't really want to spend too much money - I'm only going to be there one day and I'll probably be more interested in buying a few souvenirs and relaxing before I head to the airport than anything else, so won't go with PPR. Although Caroline's looks very nice, it's also probably more than I want to spend.

Anyone with experience with either West Plaza Coral Reef or By The Sea? I don't so much care about the room, other than reasonably clean and safe, but am more interested in a good location. Don't want to feel isolated. Would like to walk to shops, restaurants, etc.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Probably your best second choice. Go for it. Go on a wait list at the Malakal! If you ask to be wait listed you will probably get it. Somebody bound to cancel.

I *just* got back from Palau, staying at the West Plaza Coral Reef. The room was clean and new. It's not really walking distance from town but it's a $3 cab ride (or $7 to get to Kramers, on the far side of town). There's also a mini-mart a couple of doors down (and, right next door, a gigantic hardware store with extraordinarily nice people). Given all of that, it doesn't seem _too_ isolating.

There's another West Plaza across the street from the Coral Reef (is that By The Sea)? I have heard that their rooms are kind-of kicked up but I do know that their restaurant is decent if you just want to grab a bite before your morning dive.

West Plaza By the Sea is an inclined, road hike back from the shops, eateries & ATM's of the Main Street; a long hot walk during the daytime, and a very dark walk (with no sidewalk--bring a flashlight) at night.

I always try to stay at West Plaza Desekel, right in town but slightly off of the Main Drag and its traffic noise. . .
