Hi all,

Am thinking of putting together a MK25 with a pair of R109s. I like the look of the old metal ScubaPro regs but also want some comfort factor using a newer 1st stage. If I decide to upgrade to newer 2nd stages later (some might say it's a downgrade :) ), I'll already have a good base to start with.

Are there any problems going this configuration?
Any incompatibilities I should be aware of?
Is there anything that would prevent using this pair with Nitrox?
Should I tremble with fear at the thought of going deep (100+ feet) the R109s?

I'd definitely get the regs professionally serviced before they hit the water. If it helps, I mainly dive tropical.

Thanks to all in advance.

Don't do it, it is not approved SP combination...........The scuba police will be on you.........

:)

I think you would be hard pressed to over breath a R109 even at depth.........

Internally the R109's are identical to the older plastic cased G200. If you upgrade them to Blanced Adjustables, they will be internally virtually identical to the original G250 and will breathe as well as an S600, but with less dry mouth.

They'd work great with a Mk 25. I've had them to 150' on numerous occasions and they perform very well.

As a self confessed SP geek, it's a little strange aesthetically. I can't believe I wrote that...

Really it's fine, in fact it might be mechanically about the best combination you can get. Should last for centuries between rebuilds. You can put a new type 1 sea cure (without the hard plastic yellow collar) on the 109 and it works GREAT.

If your 109s happen to come with MK5s, though, it seems bizarre not to use them. You can always send them to me.

Well, that didn't take long... thanks for the quick replies.

I hate to nag (especially when I think the answer is 'no'), but any problems using Nitrox with the R109s?
