even to around 10-15 ft? anyway we were snorkelling as well during our si but we swam around 500m out in still water but i guess that dint help
Well, you posted "... i decided to dive to a depth of around 10-20 ft on a breathold..." which is enough of a bounce dive to require equalizing. I wouldn't risk it.

I´m pretty sure it´s a sinus problem, I use to freedive a lot when I was younger, but now if I descend with my head down I have problems compensating a sinus while no problem with my head up, no relation with runing-nose.
 
Sorry. I forgot something; try freediving without a mask and you´ll find the answer.
Of course not on your SI, you´re shaking the beer + stopping your nitrogen liberation + creating micronuclei with exercise
