I figured this bunch would be the most knowledgable about this..

Im currently only an OW certified diver, but I reeeally want to take the Wreck specialty course, on the ex-HMAS Brisbane :D

my conundrum is that on the PADI website it says you must be an "Adventure Diver" to do this course. What qualifies you as an "Adventure Diver"?

I currently have 32 dives, including 2 non-pen wreck dives.

Cheers guys,

Beejw

(if any mods decides to move this somwhere more appropriate/anywhere ill get more replies..)

Adventure Diver is a certification level that doesn't get talked about very much as it is essentially AOW Jr.

You have to complete any three Adventure dives. i.e. the first dive to any specialty. You might as well do 5 and get AOW. Doing that allows you to meet the prereq for other specialties.

Okay. It's a very misleading on the PADI website, and the fine print is just that, fine print, you can't actually erad it without increasing your browsers display size.

thanks guys....i guess ill just have to do EANx instead :(

Why have you decided not to do AOW?

The course im about to undertake includes it (it starts on the 19th of feb), and i was planning on getting in a little diving in before i travelled to melbourne to start the course. I was planning to dive the ex-HMAS Brisbane anyway and i thought hmm, wreck specialty is something i want, may as well get it on a kickin' new wreck with good vis and safe pens for learning.

The reason im not doing AOW right now is that its included in the cost of the Diploma course, so theres no point paying extra to do it outside the course and then having to do it again anyway...i'll just wait 6 months before doing the wreck specialty i suppose. ill do the nitrox course in the mean time and dive the brisbane anyway on nitrox...longer bottom times :D

edit: edited speeling misrakes.
