The dive idiot serves a purpose IMO, to promote good diving ettiquette, something that is sorely lacking among vacation hotspots where there are a lot of OW cert people. There is nothing worse than diving with idiots when you are on vacation. They should make a video like that for golfers :)

If I recall, the Dive Idiot had better trim in the water than the other 3. The SSI OW video people seem more real.

I didn't like the dive idiot guy when I first saw the video, but I'm also a 35 year old with an MBA currently working on my doctorate. I'm very analytical and like the facts given to me straight. When my kids (11, 12, and 15) watched it during their certification class, they thought the guy was goofy but also very funny, and they really enjoyed that part of the video. It kept it from being boring to them.

So now I definitely see the place of having the goofy guy in the video. As others have said, the audience ranges through all ages, and we all have different styles of learning.

Hm, haven't seen the new videos so I can't tell.

The old ones were a bit boring and repetitive, but I could also learn from them. Hope this is still the case.

The videos are a big help, not only for us instructors, but for the shop.

The humor is light and as non-offensive as possible, and it helps to get the message across.

As for the parts where it helps sell more gear. Well, all you need to do is ask any shop owner if they resent the fact that sales are generated by the videos. I don't think you'll find any. I've been in the shop when a student came in and said, 'the video recommended I have XXX piece of equipment, how much is it?'

Nothing wrong with marketing, unless of course your someone who thinks that everything should be free and we all should live in a group housing and wear sandals and head bands....LOL....

Just wondering if anyone here who has their own equipment, wishes they were still renting.
