Long story short, gf finished her checkout dive last Sunday. She was told all the forms would be filled out and her temp card would be emailed to her the next day. Still haven't received anything as if today and the guy is saying that the owners have to do it and they won't be back till tomorrow. We leave for the Keys this Saturday and we have been telling them since before we stared this whole process over a month ago we had to have everything done before the 11th. Multiple promises saying not to worry everything would be fine.

Needless to say I'm a little upset. When I sent my cert in it was on a papers PIC card and I had the temp rut then and there. How long does it take to get it if the shop does it electronically?

Thanks for any info.

It shouldn't take but a few minutes. As soon as I process an online PIC I can print the temp card right from that page. It's easy.

Do the owners of the shop do it or the instructor?

The idea of a temp card is that it can be given immediately, while you wait for the actual card to be mailed. Not sure why they would mail you a temp card.

However, what you can do is to call your instructor and verify that the paperwork has been submitted to PADI. Then call the dive shop in the keys and have them verify the certification. They should let you dive without the card as long as they can verify the certification online. She may be required to produce another form of ID in addition to this, and a driver's license should suffice.

The way it works here is like this: I go to the shop to fill out the papers & sign them the Monday after my class ends. The shop manager submits the PIC online usually the same day.

The instructor could do it, but since you went through a shop and paid them for the PIC as part of your class he probably wont. PADI charges for each PIC that is submitted online.

So can someone at a IDC Staff Instructor certification level sign off on new divers or does that require a higher cert level? I'm just trying to figure out why it may not have been done after the class and the owners have to do it.

It's not uncommon for the shop to process the PIC as opposed to the individual instructor. Can you call the shop first thing tomorrow, and explain your situation to the person who actually processes it? It won't take more than a few minutes once they're sitting in front of their computer.

Good luck!

It's more a shop policy issue than a "technically possible" issue.

Thanks for all the info. We have called a few times and received a different answer each time, this morning it was the owners are out of town and will back tomorrow. All the different answers do not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about everything. Now that i know it may be normal for the shop owners to do submit the info I feel a little better.

Thanks again for the info.

Don't sweat the physical temp card here in the Keys. If her card has been processed, it shows up in the PADI system next day and any shop can login and look it up. Just make sure the shop gets it entered in the system.

Happy Diving!

Yeah but the temp card lets me know it has been processed and right now I am pretty sure has not.
