Note that Sydney Diver asked for advice on the course from people who have actually done it, not from people who want to pick holes in the teaching materials or standards. I suggest that if this were a thread asking advice from people who'd actually done the GUE-F or Tech1 course, and somebody from a rival agency tried to pick holes in that, things would sound rather different. And rightly so. Do the rules change just because it's a GUE instructor?

The rules do change on this board. Only the DIR advocates are afforded a place that is a designated no trolling zone. If you violate that rule, you will be banned. However the DIR agents and zealots are more then welcome to gang up on the rest of the world. MHK should no better, but as you pointed out, he is trying to compete with them and he will stoop to any level he can and his sockpuppets will back him up 100%

I thought you left?

BTW GI was the second gunman on the grassy knoll.

He did stir up a hornets nest, and I guess some of the hornets are still mad (as indicated on this board), but at least he is trying to contribute. To take tec out of the lunatic or elitist fringe, and allow the development of "mainstream tec" and "recreational tec" (his words not mine) as the tec community grows. There will always be room for the explorers and innovaters, but they will open up the way for a new breed of tec divers, the followers.

Is there any reason that we couldnt take appropriately trained divers on 150' guided wreck dives?

Is there any reason that you couldnt take people on their once in a lifetime guided 100 meter dive at the blue hole at Dahab.

great!
We can't dive the local lakes and quarries because the dredgers silt thing up so bad in the first 15 minutes of a Saturday moning that you can't see your hand in front of our face. Now PADI's gonna get them silting up our wrecks at 200+ ft.

Maybe they'll get them on a once in a lifetime dive in cannonball and trash that too.

I'll bet that if we try real hard we can get enough divers scratching around on their knees during guided, once in a life time dives to trash all the caves and wrecks.

Shoot now we can kill all the coral down to 400 ft.

Why don't we just all wear blindfolds to get our zero vis fun and use poison and dredgers to mess up the caves. It'll work almost as well and won't be as dangerous.

Sorry but guided recreational, on the knees, all inclusive tech training isn't going to instill the appreciation, awe and skill that gets a team in to see these places and out in one piece without destroying what they're there to see.

We already have face prints 1500 ft into cave systems at jumps. How does a diver good enough to get a full cave card get their face in the silt?

Imagine what it's gonna look like when they're taught to kneel and hang onto somthing while tieing off a reel!

PADI don't get it!

By all means, IMO, every one has the same right to access to these fantastic places. However I strongly believe that they should develope the skill and knowledge to do it (I hate to say it)...never mind I won't...but at least off their knees and as capable thinking divers who don't need to kneel (even when using a reel and/or bag).

Sorry for the rant. Well not really.

Stop it Mike, I'm starting to agree with you. :54:

BTW you gave me an idea. Can we have well divers and sick divers like they do at my girls pediatrics office? Good divers can come in at 8am and go diving and the rest can come in at 2pm.

Thankyou for proving my point.

It proves nothing, but ask why someone who left a few days ago can't help themselves but come back in this thread?? No other threads, but this one. Mention DIR or GUE and you salivate. You can't help yourself.
I'm going to take a TDI course here in the next couple months. Will I compare it to GUE, of course. Chill out Chris, it can't be good for your blood pressure.

Thanks for the belly laugh Mike!!

But Mike!

That Tec-Rec instructor teaching 'ya how to shoot a bag while hanging onto a rock - he's gonna produce a safer diver than the guy who learns - on his own - how to shoot a bag midwater, right? :D

I'll admit that I deserve criticism on my upset post about adios. But MHK is the one that came into this thread with a hard on for PADI. If you wan't to accuse me of salivating, you have to accuse him also. Will you be man enough to do that?
