DandyDon:
You can't spend one more day getting real OW training...?

I think the title says it all. All the info I found, even the PADI site, didn't say much about the time reqs to get the Scuba Diver cert. I thought it was mayabe a full day of class/pool then the dives. I can get away with a day to do the resort course and and day of diving, but fours day away from wife on vacation will result in bad things :)

Don - good name BTW

If you really don't have time to complete the OW cert and since you have already done a couple of resort courses I would suggest that you do a referal cert where you take the classroom and confined water portion of the class at home and do the checkout dives at the resort.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I agree wholeheartedly, and plan on getting my OW cert. The only reason I considered this option was that I will not have time, due to my career, to get my OW cert, or even in-class portion done to do a referral (I work WAAAYYY TOO MUCH) in before my vacation in 4 weeks.

The main advantages of the Scuba Diver course are transferrability which I do not have with the resort courses I have taken. I was hoping this would open doors to different dives, but obviously this isn't the case; it just means I will have to complete an OW cert when I return home before next vacation.

Thanks for the info.

Some shops (I know mine does) offer and executive weekend option to the OW course. You can complete the classroom and Pool work in one weekend. I know about not having time. I took this option when I did mine. You can then take your referral package with you on vacation and complete the open water portion in two days.

Good Luck and Welcome to Diving
