...NAUI only requires DAN O2 for Advanced Rescue certification. For Basic Rescue certification, you only need First Aid/CPR.
NAUI requires oxygen administration, but not a "DAN O2" course. DAN has a great course, but NAUI does not limit oxygen administration training to just one agency. Your O2 training can be from ASHI, Red Cross, etc.

okay, here's a stupid rescue question... this is a cert i'd like sometime. what counts as the cpr/first aid/o2/etc requirements? is it enough to be a nurse with current bls? i know not everyone does this stuff every day, so my question is do they skip that part for those who do? because that would be a part of the class to read a novel in while sitting in a seat in the back.

Good question, Marci. Your current BLS certification with your nurse's license (especially AHA stuff) definitely exceeds PADI's CPR requirement for the Rescue Diver Course. Since CPR is a pre-requisite, none of those skills are actually taught during the PADI Rescue Diver Course. So, unfortunately for you, you wouldn't get to read your novel during class! ;) Although First Aid is recommended, PADI only REQUIRES a current CPR certification for the Rescue Diver Course.

See ya @ Blue Stone on Sunday!

thanks, gerry. btw, the rules in your sig are in the wrong order!

Is there any date as to when PADI will offer the o2 course or when they will change the student package?

I took my rescue about six months ago and thought it was a great course. i combined it with the EFR course and did the optional o2 and AED.

Luckily I took my training through an instructor who also happened to be an ENT.

With this course especially, it is best taken through someone who has real world medical training and can go above and beyond the base material. I really didn't find the PADI EFR curriculum or even the rescue material all that comprehensive but the extra's thrown in by the instructor made it well worth the cost of the course which was extremely expensive.

I don't know if I would read a book during class regardless of the instructor or my personal experience though. Even after a number of years in my feild, i still learn a thing or two every time I sit in another instructor's lecture. This is even true when I sit in a new instructor's class.

I do think many specialties are not all that worthwhile but, EFR and especially rescue are NOT one of them. These are great courses and may well make the difference between life and death for someone in the future be they a diver or not.

No, as I mentioned in my previous posting, there is no proposed date for a PADI-authored O2 course.

The student package for Rescue Diver has already been changed, but Instructors are allowed to use/teach using the previous course materials up to July 1st (if memory serves).

Yup.. that's the way we teach it as well. :thumb:

Marci, you know...I agree with you about my signature. However, I don't want the PADI Police questioning my competence! :) You gotta ALWAYS look good!

Wait, an ENT as in MD of Ear, Nose, and Throat, or EMT, as in Emergency Medical Technician?? Both are cool, but it is different to be an EMT and an ENT.
