Can anyone compare the PADI Rec Diving encyclopedia written and DVD versions for me. There is no PADI forum and I want to pick this up, because it has been recommended by a few people as a great source of info. I just want to know if the videos on the DVD are worth it, and if the information on the DVD is the same as in the book.

Thanks ahead of time for all your help.

by far the dvd is much better, it makes you want to study more, the videos are very well done, and the information is very easy to find

The information is the same, and in most cases word-for-word. I have both and tend to turn to the DVD first because I can find things in it faster.

The videos are nice and for some, they make learning the material easier.

The advantage of the book is the ease of bouncing between sections (put a thumb in here and flip to the other section type thing that comes with printed books.)

Yeah, all PADI courses that I've done are like that- the book is pretty much word for word same as video/DVD. Depends on which you prefer.

There are some excellent videos in the DVD version. I particularly like the one which shows how tanks are made:)

However, I agree with the responder who said that it is easy to flip through the book, plus you can notate the margins. Althoug it is pricier, I would recommend getting both.

I think my question is: is there text on the DVD that is the same as the text in the book or is it replaced with videos. Sorry about not being more clear the first time around. Thanks for all the great words of experience!

The text is pretty much a PDF of the book itself, which if you are cool reading PDFs on your computer its ok. You can mark it up with comments too, so it is like writing in the margins.

I have both and find the DVD (which I keep on my PC as an ISO so it is always there) i go to more often, and yes the Tank video is very cool!

My $.02
