Hello all,

I did my open water a few years ago in greece but foolishly didnt send my card off for full certification! I enjoyed snorkelling in the red sea last year and have booked to go back in september. Is there a top-up type course or any way that i can still become certified without completing the whole course again. I still have the envelope which i should have sent away.

I understand that the best idea would probably be to do it again anyway to be on the safe side.

Any ideas?

regards

I'd say a refresher course is in order, but I hung onto my paper work for a year or so before mailing it...they didn't say anything...

thanks Kwbyron,

I would definately need a refresher but the card i have says its valid for 90 days. I thought that i would have to do it all over again but you say that i should be ok? Is there a refresher course? or are you saying that i should do the open water again.

Many thanks
Juppy

There should be a number on the packet, give PADI a call and they can tell you the best way to handle it. You would at least want to take a refresher course.

With today's mail system you shouldn't have a problem telling them it must have been lost at the post office because you mailed it immediately after returning home from your trip. :D

If you never got you c-card, then you will have to do the full class all over again. PADI only allows for a full year to pass between training sessions before you have to redo everything.

That's not entirely true... If he completed the full training and OW dives and was given a blue PIC envelope with filled out paperwork then it doesn't matter when he mails it in as the certification date on the card will be the date his instructor signed off on the Open Water cert.

I know this from experience... I mailed in a PIC envelope w/ paperwork 3 years after the signoff and 2 weeks later PADI mailed me my c-card. (Yes I did signup and take a local scuba refresher class).

Just make sure you have all the paperwork in there along with a picture of yourself for them to put on your card. You'll be fine.
