I've dove with the Prodive crew in Ft. Lauderdale. No rental car required, there is a hotel right across the street from the shop. It is on the marina. Both are a 10 minute cab ride from the airport. I forget the name of the hotel, but if you tell them you're diving with ProDive, you get a discount on the room. You can walk the strip, and visit the area shops and restaurants.
