I sat through the PADI seminar on this in MAY. My shop is debating on wether we want to do this or not. I am interested in teaching it, but the shop is the determining factor..this is only offered at PADI 5 Stars and is not dependent on the instructor. If I leave the shop and go independent or join a shop that is not a 5 star I can't teach this program

if it is dependent on the Store then thats like saying SSI system is what they are following.

it only boils down to one thing then BUY BUY BUY merchandising .....

tsk tsk tsk

I looked at the things you learn that is "extra" for this course. Other than the use of a camera, they are things I learned in my basic OW course. What is the advantage? However, I will admit. Adding more basic diving skills for any dive course is a good thing.

sorry but looks like a load of cr*p, seems like they've taken a few bits n peices off different courses already in existence.. wow, learn to hover in 3 different positions, navigate - now there's a thought, but then dont we teach that in the open water or was I pushing my students to hard.

Just a marketing ploy and a way to get people to pay for what they should already be able to do or simply DO NOT NEED...this course is as about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

Dude, chill out and stop moaning or we will have to change you name to dorset knob! :11:

This is exactly what so many people on this board whine and whinge about, that PADI doesnt teach enough basic skills, that an open water diver should have the trim of a highly experienced diver but doesnt, yadeyadeya.

This program is designed to combine the overlapping markets of these two market leaders.

The products are designed to be way above the average quality for materials, for example it includes a leather crewpack. The additional dives are above and beyond what should be taught in the open water course. In fact, from my point of view, they have basically combined the open water course with adventure diver and packaged it with an environmental exploration and conservation slant.

Better trained, more eco friendly divers.

YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT BUDDY?????

If you think that better trained, more eco friendly divers is a bad idea, then you are in the wrong business.

¡Ay caray!

I walked into that one lol...

nah, disagree with you Mark, I think that all open water students should finish the ow with strong bouyancy skills and navigation is a must for an ow diver. Am I reading the pages on the site wrong though, aren't they offering it as a follow on course post ow?

So, they should name it "The Semi-Adequate Openwater Course You Should Have Gotten" instead of something that makes you think you're gonna be a highly trained professional diver.
This is all about marketing. Period.

sounds like the current PADI OW and AOW, with Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Photography, and Peak
Performance Bouyancy thrown in, plus you get the Nat. Geo. Diver Alamanac and DVD.

it's just marketing (not that that's bad). PADI needs the prestige of National Geographic and National Geographic needs PADI's numbers.

if for anything else than encouraging the better bouyancy
and natural conservation, i sort of like it.
