Does American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor qualify for prerequisite for PADI Instructor?

Like it or not, to become an OWSI you must be an EFR Instructor as well. If you are a current instructor with another recognized agency you can do a cross-over to become an EFR instructor - you can do it online. Yes, Red Cross is recognized.

"CPR/First Aid Instructor with another emergency care organization" is also acceptable under the current PADI Instructor manual, Page 152 OWSI Program - Exit Requirements.

Thanks for that! Obviously I missed the point that OWSI's must be able to offer first aid instruction, not necessarily EFR instruction. The cross-over is only if they want to be able to offer EFR.

Are all PADI OWSI's certified since March '09 required to maintain qualification to teach first aid?

Is a new MSDT required to maintain first aid teaching qualification to maintain MSDT rating?

My first aid teaching qualifications expired after 2 years of non-use, maintaining first aid teaching status was not mandatory; has that changed?

The boat I work for just had a "crew class" to renew all our Coast Guard required first aid certs; our less than 2 years certified PADI Instructor was our First Responder instructor, because all the rest of us, even out MSDT's, are expired as first aid instructors.
